The desktop app

Apex Download Manager runs entirely on your computer. It has no accounts, no analytics, and no telemetry. It makes network requests only to download the files you ask it to download and to check GitHub Releases for application updates. Nothing about you or your downloads is sent to the developer or to any third party.

The browser extension

The extension does not collect, store, or transmit any data to the developer or any third party. It has no analytics and makes no network requests except to the Apex Download Manager application running on your own computer (127.0.0.1). When you download a file, the extension forwards that file's URL to the local Apex app, along with the cookies and referring page for that URL so that downloads behind logins work. The app uses them solely to perform the download you requested. Nothing leaves your machine.

Using "Grab video from this page" works the same way: the page address is sent to the local app together with the cookies for that one page, so that if a site refuses the video to a signed-out request, the app can offer to retry as the signed-in you. The app holds those cookies in memory only, for that single retry. They are never written to its database and are gone when the app closes. Nothing is retried unless you ask for it, and nothing leaves your machine.

The website

Unlike the app and the extension, this website does collect some data. It does two things.

A download count. Each click on a download link adds one to a single total. Nothing about the request is read or stored with it: no IP address, location, or browser details.

Page views, through Vercel Web Analytics. The home page loads Vercel's analytics script, which records each page view with the time, the page address, the referring site, any filtered query parameters, an approximate location (country, region and city), and your operating system, browser and device type. It uses no cookies. Visitors are told apart by a hash of the request that Vercel discards after 24 hours, and the developer only ever sees aggregated totals, never individual visits. Vercel describes this in its Web Analytics privacy policy. This page does not load the script.

The website does not affect the app or the extension: neither one ever contacts this site, and nothing you download is reported anywhere.
